Most definitely will be updating as things change. This is my first saltwater tank, so I'm taking things nice and slow.

Eh, had some issues with the pH recently. Since I haven't had a SW tank before, I had no idea how crucial the aeration was to the tank. So I just added a Koralia pump and some pH buffer. I also just ordered my mr16s to install. After all that is done, and a week has passed, I'll be looking into adding a cleaner shrimp or a goby to start with. Just something small to test how well the tank is doing. Smile

Okay, here's an update. Added the mr16 bulbs (which was fun to install).

Looks good Anna - i've just finished my fluorescent mod which you may want to try, especially as the bulbs i've used can be directly replaced with a marine blue bulb too!

I've posted some pics in the mod section

Marine lighting

Post  MrGator on Sun Jul 18, 2010 2:32 am

Hey Anna,

if you were to go for the CFL mod, these are the bulbs to go for:

1 x http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1314&pf_id=53530

1 x http://www.petplanet.co.uk/product.asp?dept_id=1314&pf_id=53529

You might also want to wire them in parallel, the blue on a separate switch so that you can control both day and night independently.

I've just had a thought - you could even use the switch from the current lighting arm if you wanted to - remove it, drill a small hole and mount it on the rear of the hood for easy access! - I wished i'd have thought of this now!!!!!!

I know that the one CFL can be cable tied to the mounting arm no problem so maybe you could add the one and then add some blue MR16 LEDs for the moonlight??

Just a few suggestions!

I'll keep that in mind, but I don't think I'll be switching any time soon. Right now I'm diggin the LEDs ^_^"
BUT... I have an update!
Blood Red Shrimp and a Blue/Green Chromis in the background:

An Emerald Crab:

One of the two hermit crabs. I caught him a while ago trying to climb the inside of the tank using the silicone seal:

So far everything has been nice and stable. The most recent additions were the Emerald Crab and Blood Red shrimp, which were added yesterday.
