Hello & Greetings to all from Dallas, TX. I've decided to purchase the 12 gal. Fluval Edge Aquarium and would appreciate any tips & feedback that will better prepare me for the "startup" process. Thank You!!

Hi and welcome,

Here's a good read on how to get going.... http://www.fishforever.co.uk/cycling.html

Yup, you have to take it slow over the first 4-6 weeks I'm afraid, but that gives you time to plan your layout and read up on what animals you will stock. Here's a website that will calculate for you how many fish you can eventually have in the tank... http://aqadvisor.com/0

Fish keeping is all about keeping healthy water - if the water is good then so will be the fish. So you'll need a test kit to inspect the water eg.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/API-Freshwater-Master-Test-Kit/dp/B004VU8G56/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1333183055&sr=8-2

There's lots more info on this website on starting a tank, but it may require a bit of searching to find it all. Perhaps there should be a section on the Forum dedicated to 'Starting a tank'?

Anyway, have fun...and take it slow,

Regards,

Ricky
